Florence Center for the Arts, Inc.

The mission of the Florence Center for the Arts is to plan for and build a downtown facility, which will be a center for the performing arts and home for resident arts groups of the Pee Dee region.

As we launch the “Magic of the Arts” campaign to establish the Endowment Fund for the Florence Center for the Arts we present a vision to you, which we will share with all businesses and individuals of this community.  This vision will ultimately play a large role in defining the future of Florence …….. a vision of a mixed use arts center with auditoriums for performances and multi purpose space for educational programs, rehearsal rooms, exhibitions and functions.  This facility is to be built in downtown Florence as part of a “cultural campus” in the vicinity of the Dr’s Bruce and Lee Foundation library.

The achievement of this vision is a threefold process.  First, the establishment of an Endowment to create the nucleus of principal funding, the interest which is generated will be used for operational expenses.  Second, the obtaining of additional operational funding from local government.  Then, and only then, will the foundation of this project be in place for the final phase, the securement of building funding.

Our vision of the Florence Center for the Arts will benefit our community in many ways but there are two outstanding motivating factors that make a compelling case for supporting this ambitious project:

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION:

Economic impact studies show that performing arts centers serve as anchors to economic development.  This impact is in the form of restaurants, retail spaces, parking and workforce which will generate significant revenue for our local community.  The center would be in the heart of the proposed “cultural campus” drawing people from our community and beyond into downtown Florence for a range of cultural
and entertainment activities.  This in turn would make a marked difference to the attractiveness of Florence when Pee Dee area businesses, professional and academic organizations and medical facilities recruit employees to the area.  Examples from other South Carolina communities show that a performing arts center is a crucial part of the infrastructure that a city needs to attract both people and investment.

 CULTURAL ENRICHMENT:

Florence is a transportation, medical, legal, educational and retail hub.  It has the potential to be a cultural hub as well.  This center could serve as the regional facility for all arts and cultural organizations in the Pee Dee area thereby expanding the opportunities for all of our residents to experience the magic of the arts.  Francis Marion University has made a firm commitment to help realize this vision – a powerful example of their understanding of the role cultural enrichment plays in educational excellence.

The black tie Masque Gala to be held on Friday, October 28th, 2005, is the “kickoff” to start the process of achieving this vision.  We, the gala committee, believe this event presents an exciting opportunity for significant funding and support from this community to put the infrastructure of the Florence Center for the Arts in place.

The theme of the evening, and magic it will be - a tented affair, with guests in formal attire wearing or holding masks of every sort and description. There will be drinks, hors d' oeuvres and a gourmet dinner. There will be live music for dancing and a silent auction will offer the finest in paintings, sculpture, jewelry and other fine art.

Tickets are $150 per person for the Gala beginning at 7:00PM. Those desiring to give at a higher level (from $1000 to $20,000) are designated as Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, Carnegies and Mellons, receiving additional tickets and invitations to the Review Party for Sponsors at 6:00PM.

Please join us and make as much of a contribution as possible to the vitality, economic growth and quality of life in our city.  Our phone number is (843) 662-0037. Thank you for considering our proposal.

Sincerely,
Clare Callicott
